CATEGORIES OF FOOD GROUPS.

Food items can be basically put into three distinct categories namely:
  • Energy Giving Food.
  • Protective Giving Food.
  • Body Building Food. 
Energy Giving Food. 
                       These are those food items that gives energy to the body to go about the day's work.They mostly contain carbohydrates. children tend to play a lot throughout the day and need energy.
Experts say that playing helps develop the thinking ability of the child. In playing, they tend to take up various roles and run around hence they need to be fed with diets that contain energy giving foods. examples of such food items are yam, rice, plantain,gari among others.

Protective Giving Food.
  These as the name suggests protects the body against diseases. I t actually safeguard the body's immune system to be able to fight against diseases.They mostly contain vitamins and are largely made up of roughage(fruits and vegetables). examples include oranges, banana, pineapple, cabbage,carrot, lettuce among others.



Body Building Food.
              These are those food items that helps build the body to be strong and healthy. It helps build strong  bones and teeth and other organs in the body. Children need a to grow strong and healthy bones and teeth. These kind of food items also helps protect children from diseases such as kwahiokor, and other deficiencies.examples include milk, fish, bone marrow, egg, liver, beans,agushie, soya bean among others.
