Another Tragedy

And it happened again! Another gas explosion.

Our's is a country where there are lots of talks with minimal or no action at all. Seven lives lost with several others injured and trust me, the old tradition of plenty talk with little or no action will continue, and so yes, it will happen again.

Saturday evening's gas explosion at Atomic junction makes it the 3rd tragedy in ten months just this year, and eight in 3 years.

In 2014, two gas explosions were recorded, two in 2015, one in 2016 and three in 2017. These explosions have claimed lots of lives and property, leaving some victims deformed for ever and yet, there will be experts talking about this very one with promises of a solution and later on leave the matter to rest, like allowing "sleeping dogs lie."

We can not stop using fuel because obviously, it enhances our everyday lives, but can't something be done to prevent these explosions that claim innocent lives? What are we not doing right? Are these new policies by the government solution to gas explosion in our country?

Well, lets all face reality, there are a lot of policies that do not even work in Ghana because there is no accountability on the part of some authorities in management positions.

But then again, we wouldn't be too quick to judge, after all, we live to see what happens with this new policy the government is proposing. If those work, the better it is for us all, because at the end, it is our families and loved ones who become victims of these explosions.

Another bothering issue is the rate at which these fuel and gas filling stations are springing up. Just a a few minutes drive and you can count close to 5 filling stations on one stretch. Are they not becoming too much? Imagine how many more lives will be lost if there's another explosion and then there are other filling stations close by. Only God can save us.

Today, students of UPSA are demonstrating for the close down of a filling station (Sel Filling station) just behind the school and well, i agree with them. How can a University with a population of over a 1,000 have a filling station?
We have to take lessons from all these explosions and act accordingly to prevent future disasters.

Human lives are important and there's got to be a solution to end all these tragedies. God bless our homeland Ghana and make it great and strong.
